Abuela's is owned and operated by Juan Toledo & Katrina Frankenberger. 

 

Juan grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico.

After working 10 years in the industry, he thought about opening his own restaurant.   However, before realizing this goal, Juan Carlos decided to travel to Vancouver, Canada with the plan of returning to Mexico later.  It was here that Juan met Katrina who had grown up in Surrey, BC.  Juan's plans changed again, and he determined to make Canada his permanent home.  He completed schooling at SELC College in Hospitality Management while gaining further experience working in Mexican restaurants across Metro Vancouver.. Juan is passionate about bringing authentic Mexican flavours, many of which are inspired by his grandmother, hence the Abuela after which the company is named. ​
